Hi, my name is Hannah and I am the 23-year-old bookbinder behind Umpteen Ink. I founded Umpteen Ink. in Newnan, GA in the Fall of 2020.

I first discovered bookbinding as a sophomore at the University of Georgia after writing a minuscule publication called Mums, Pansies, & Pumpkins that I put together using a 5-hole pamphlet stitch.

Bookbinding was never on my radar; I loved books because I was a writer. I didn't even know I was bookbinding while I was bookbinding! But during a time in my life when I felt lost, alone, and good-for-nothing, I would come home and bookbind, and my problems were lost in my pastime.

A little later, I discovered the love of Christ. My faith is my greatest passion and purpose which gave life to this love of bookbinding. Bookbinding makes me think of his love, because it is painstaking and personal. It is one-on-one, it takes time, and it produces something beautiful.

I am a novice, self-taught bookbinder who is learning through experience. I was accepted into the American Academy of Bookbinding in Spring of 2020, but classes were cancelled indefinitely due to the pandemic.

I hope to attend in 2021 and bring a new understanding of bookbinding to my fledgling business.

I'd love to leave you with a beautiful verse, a verse that I keep in mind when conducting business as a bookbindery and makeshift, sometimes publishing house: "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”

(Isaiah 52:7)
